If there’s one thing we love more than weddings and engagement shoots, it’s an anniversary session! We love that we get to see the couple 1 year later or even 25 years later and then sharing the lessons learned with you guys. It’s something that is very important here at CBB, because we all know the wedding is one day but the marriage is a lifetime. Take a look below at Jennifer & Bryan’s anniversary shoot and read their words about marriage one year later.
From the Couple:
We met on July 2009 in the heart of downtown Columbia, SC. I told my best friend about a popular lounge spot in the Vista area and we decided to go out for a girls night of fun. While at the lounge, I noticed a guy staring at me from across the room. I didn’t pay any mind to him, so we continued to enjoy our night. While walking to our car, Lance pulled up and greeted us at the stop light. Being the stubborn woman I am, I looked at him smirked and began walking across the street. Lance pulled off and I thought that was the end of that. Little did I know Lance had another plan, and appeared in the parking lot with a big smile on his face. He was so persistent and made a joke that I couldn’t help but laugh and smile back at him. Lance has been putting a smile on my face ever since the night we first met. We started out as friends for about 2 years and over time true love endured. We officially started dating in January 2012 and we’ve never looked back. How did he propose? My husband is very good with surprises and the night he proposed felt like a dream. Sounds very cliché but it was a night to remember. I just relocated to Atlanta, GA from accepting a new position with my agency and was so overwhelmed. Lance decided that he would come and visit me since we had to cancel our annual vacation. Being the uplifting and high spirited person he is, Lance tried so hard to lift my spirit and got me looking forward to our date that evening. Never did I think this night would change our lives forever. We had such a great dinner and great conversation that I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this man. After dinner, Lance decided we should walk across the street to check out Centennial Olympic Park. As we walked around he sat me down in front of a fountain and popped the question. A photographer captured our entire evening together and we capped off the night with a horse and carriage ride around downtown Atlanta. What’s one thing you’ve learned since being married? Wife:There are so many milestones we’ve reached in our first year but the one thing I’ve learned since being married is sacrifice. I’ve learned a lot about myself and I can whole heartedly say “it’s not all about you”. I’m learning how to serve my spouse and family. At the beginning it was very hard for me but over time I could see how appreciative my husband was for my actions. To him it’s just the little things that count that goes a long way.
Husband: What’s one piece of advice you would offer to engaged couples or couples thinking about getting married? I would strongly encourage engaged couples to seek marital counseling. Counseling doesn’t mean that you have problems, but it will provide strategies on how to address problems when they exist in your marriage. I believe counseling helps you put marriage into a different perspective. In a marriage, I understand that everything will not be perfect, but learning those fundamentals and building that foundation is the key to a successful marriage. What’s one thing that makes your love special? What makes our love special is that it’s everlasting. We started out as friends and we’ve seen our love blossom over the years. Whether we’re near or far we will always have each other in our hearts. Not only are we life long partners but we are friends and we appreciate each other so much more for that. What was your favorite thing about the shoot? Our favorite thing about the shoot was how natural and fun it was to shoot and explore Ponce Market. The last time we met with Mecca for our engagement pictures we were so nervous and on top of that planning a wedding. This time around we were able to really enjoy one another. Laugh and enjoy the memory we are making to celebrate our 1 year anniversary.”
