Last month I had the honor of attending a travel conference in Riviera Maya, Mexico called Love Mexico. As part of being a romance travel specialist with Encore Romance Travel it’s my job to network and visit different destinations so I can get a better understanding of how to plan trips for my clients. Love Mexico is an educational and networking event to showcase Mexico as a premier destination for weddings, honeymoons and romantic trips. This was my first travel conference and my first visit to Mexico and although there were a few hiccups I was pleasantly surprised about Mexico.
The conference was held on December 9-12. However, we arrived on Saturday December 7 and stayed at the Secrets Silversands Riviera Maya a very chic and stylish resort. We were hoping to get a tour of the property but unfortunately, we had to wait until Monday to do so. Which was fine, that gave more time to actually experience the resort first hand. The resort didn’t have the best beach but it definitely made up for it with 8 pools one of which was an infinity pool. Tons of activities through out the day & night including pool games, golf course, live music & shows, dance lessons and a world class spa. (which, I did have a chance to indulge in a massage and must say it was divine!) Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort to the couple who is looking relax a few days as well as enjoy adventure at their leisure.
Here are some pics of my stay at the Secrets Silversands: (these photos were taken on my Galaxy S3)
On Monday morning, we packed up to head over to the Moon Palace Resort & Spa where the conference was being held. Now this resort was HUGE!!! Having 4 different lobby entrances that you needed transportation to and from. Upon arrival we checked in for the conference and had to do a quick change as we were invited to an outside event. Several vendors outside of the Love Mexico conference put together this wonderful excursion for Brenda and I along with several other travel agents. It started as just taking pictures on the beach for your business and it grew into so much more. Los Suenos is your one stop destination wedding shop to find everything your client needs to have the wedding of their dreams here in Mexico. They have a number of local vendors including florists, DJs, wedding planners, make up artists, hair stylists and more. Some of whom were available that day to showcase their businesses. I must say I was very impressed, this is definitely a place for the couple that wants a destination wedding without the resort like feel to it. It was off the beaten path and on the water..we took professional pictures on the beach courtesy of husband and wife team Manuel & Jennifer Salazar & of Bicoastal Images. Take a look below:
After that wonderful experience we returned back to Moon Palace to get ready for the Welcome Reception. And welcome us they did! There were fireworks, photo booth, lots of appetizers and drinks flowing! Since there was no formal dinner a few of us did go to one of the hotel restaurants following the welcome party as we were starving. Check out Brenda and I in action at the photo booth!
Tuesday & Wednesday were both conference days filled with expert panels in the mornings that introduced you to many ways of why Mexico is a great destination for a honeymoon or wedding. The afternoons were designed for prescheduled appointments with Mexican suppliers. This was actually your chance to have a one on one with the resorts in 15 minute increments. As a new person to the romance travel field this part of the conference was very important to me…as I needed to ask questions and determine who I would best work with and who would best for my clients. At the end of the 2 day conference I spoke with over 20 suppliers. Wednesday evening was the farewell dinner and I must say the Palace resorts pulled off an exceptional evening filled with a 5 course meal, music, giveaways and more.

All and all the Love Mexico conference was actually great. Being able to experience first hand what my clients will see was wonderful. I’m looking forward to exploring more of Mexico in the future.
Would you go to Mexico for your honeymoon or romantic getaway?
