Good morning beautiful people! I’m sure everyone is ready for the weekend and will continue celebrating Valentine’s Day with the ones you love.  Here’s a little something to kick off your weekend right. Let me know how it tastes!

passion

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Skyy Infusions Passion Fruit
  • ¾ oz orange liqueur
  • ¾ oz rose syrup (such as Monin)
  • ½ oz lime juice
  • Rosé champagne or sparkling wine
  • 1 rose petal

Instructions

Combine all ingredients except champagne/sparkling wine in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and add sparkling wine, stir and strain into a martini glass. Float the rose petal on top of the cocktail for garnish.

Natural Hair Inspiration

February 13, 2013 by Danielle Leave a Comment

Whether it be kinky or curly, twist or braid out, more and more women are giving up the creamy crack and wearing their hair in its natural state. Natural hair has come a long way and is more widely accepted now than ever.  I’ve been natural for 5 years now and I’ve often wondered what I would do with my hair on my wedding day. There are so many different things you can do with natural hair. Here are a few of my favorite styles:

Engagement Ring

Hello beautiful people!! Picture this: You’ve been dating your honey for several years, you’ve gotten closer with each other and you’ve met his family and he’s met yours. You talk about your hopes and dreams and biggest fears as well as plans for the future. You know it’s coming but you don’t know when. But just when you least expected it he gets down on one knee and pops the big question!

And you said YES!!!

So now what do you do? There are several wedding checklists out there all across the web and I will highlight a few at the end of this post. However, before you start sending out invitations and picking out colors please take a look at my first things first list:

  1. Call your parents and family members as well as close friends. Before you change your Facebook status and post your ring let these people know from you. Hopefully they will be the ones to help you get prepared for your big day over the next few months.
  2. Go get a manicure. No seriously. Over the next few weeks people will be looking at your left hand constantly, the last thing you want is for them to be giving you the side eye because your nails are a mess. Now I’m not saying you have to do this every week, as that could get rather expensive but at least have a fresh coat of polish.
  3. Discuss your budget. This is about the most important thing for you to do. But wait weddings are supposed to be all about picking out peonies and dress shopping right? All things going forward will depend on how much you and your honey are willing to spend.  This can be a difficult conversation to have however, it must be done. Pick a number and stick to it, discuss how you will save. Will you each put money aside weekly? Will family and friends assist as well? Sit down and discuss.
  4. Discuss wedding date or season. You don’t have to necessarily pick a date just yet but get a general idea of when you’d like to get married. Are you going to wait a year so you can save? Have you always wanted a fall wedding?
  5. Where do you want to get married? And I don’t mean the exact venue but the location. Are you going to get married where you currently live or would you be willing to get married back in your hometown.  Take into consideration how you might plan a wedding long distance and time and money it might cost to go home a few times to check on things. Or do you want a destination wedding?
  6. Get inspired!! Ok now comes the fun part. Pick up a few wedding magazines, subscribe to weddings blogs. (hopefully you’ve subscribed to Chic Brown Bride already.) Join Pinterest as well as attend a few wedding shows. This will help you to create a vision for your day.
  7. Seek out and set up marriage counseling. This is important. Why? Because the best time to iron out major issues is BEFORE you get married. This doesn’t mean you won’t encounter any while married but it does help.
  8. Lastly, enjoy this time. This is one of the most exciting times in your life. Breath. Live in the moment for a few. You’re going to be pulled in all different kinds of directions remember to stay true to you and what you and your fiancé wants.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

February 10, 2013 by Danielle 14 Comments

Hello beautiful people! Well, I finally decided to get this blog site up and running. Please know this has been over a year in the making because I have talked myself out of it several times, but the passion for it would not die. I am so excited to finally introduce Chic Brown Bride to everyone! In my former life I was either a wedding planner or an actress or maybe an actress who played a wedding planner (But, I digress). 🙂

I love WEDDINGS!!! But what I love most about weddings is the commitment two people have chosen to enter into together. The love story behind it all is what really gets me! But what really saddens me is the lack of love that brides and couples of color receive. Brides of color are often under represented or over looked in main stream media. This has been the case in the wedding as well as the fashion industry for years.

Recently, there are several sites dedicated solely to brides of color. But in a billion dollar industry having a handful (literally) of sites like these is ridiculous! In this day and age images and stories that are for us and support women of color and relationships are so much needed.  Stories that include couples who not only got married but stay married are also important. Not only that this site is here to cater to and support small businesses who work with these couples. Over the next few weeks please look out some of these weekly features:

Tuesday Shoesday: Every Tuesday we will feature a shoe so you can keep your shoe game tight.

Wednesdays: Dedicated to all things related to the day of your wedding. Real Weddings, Interviews with Industry professionals, styled shoots. Also a special treat I like to call Then Comes Marriage although this is a wedding blog and we all want to see the pretty we can’t forget that the marriage should be better than the wedding. This is where I will interview couples who will discuss what they have learned since being married and give the real deal on what marriage is all about.

Thursday: Dress the Look features nothing but fashion for your wedding day, rehearsal dinner, bridal shower etc…

Friday: I like to end the week off with Happy Hour! I will feature a drink recipe for you to enjoy and relax with for the weekend as well as my favorite links from around the web.

As well as daily musings on life, love and all things pretty!!

Xoxo,

Danielle
