Welcome to another One on One With..in this series we interview wedding professionals and ask those important questions you’ve been dying to know. What do you get when you have a husband that’s a disc jockey and wife that loves taking pictures? Well, you get Story & Rhythm…a husband and wife photography and DJ team based in North Carolina. Find out more about them below!
CBB: Tell me more about your business and how you got started? It is always so weird talking about ourselves! Brian started disc jockeying in college! One of his friends had a turntable and he would spend hours mixing different songs and just playing around with the equipment! I fell in love with photography as a little girl when my Dad gave me my first film camera! Ever since then I dreamed of one day becoming an established portrait photographer! Initially, we both decided to start our businesses at the same time, but not as one business! After about a year of working separately, we knew it was time to join our business as one! That is when Story & Rhythm was born!
CBB: Explain the experience of working with you as both a photographer & DJ
service? Who does what? We strive to give our clients an amazing experience! From the first time that we chat with them, we want our couples to feel special! We love sending gifts and going that extra mile for our clients! Brian is the DJ and I am the main photographer for our business! Brian offers full DJ service as well as emcee services! I provide our couples with everything from digital images to the first family heirloom and album! I like to think that we’re a little laid back, but we love to talk and spend time with our clients! We love when our brides tells us after their wedding that we were more like friends than just working vendors! That makes everything that we do so worth it!
CBB: Name 3 things one should ask when working with a photographer?
I always tell our clients that if they interview another photographer, they should definitely ask to see a full wedding! Or at least a portfolio with lots of images and different weddings! I also suggest to ask or look for past reviews! This is so important and it’s great to hear feedback from past clients! I would also ask if they offer albums! It’s great to have that USB with digital images, but it’s so much better when you have a wedding album that you can pass down to your children!
CBB: Name 3 things one should ask when working with a DJ? When searching for a DJ, we believe that you should definitely ask for reviews or references! Feedback from past clients is so important! Also ask if the DJ has all of the equipment needed for your venue or location! Some venues may have a speaker system already, but you really need to make sure that your DJ has speakers and a wireless microphone or anything else that you’ll be needing for your day! Lastly, we would suggest asking if he/she has a sample of his music that you can listen to! This will give you a good idea of how he/she transitions between songs and the quality of his music!
CBB: Are you available for travel? Oh yes! We love traveling with our couples! We have traveled to South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and all over North Carolina for past weddings!
CBB: What’s it like working together as a husband & wife team? We are so blessed to be able to work together as a husband and wife team! It can be a little stressful at times, but we wouldn’t trade it for the world! I like to think that we compliment each other! Brian is your typical guy who loves sports and can have an awesome conversation with the groom about football and cars! While I love all of the pretty things in life and I’m in heaven chatting with the bride about her wedding decor and hair! It’s just something so special about working together at a wedding! We get dressed, we eat breakfast together and then we get to be a part of such a special day for our couples! We work together leading up to the wedding day and even more so on the day of the wedding to make sure that everything goes smoothly for our couples!
